Hoops trio headed to the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame!

Mar. 01, 2018

Basketball will be well represented in the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame class of 2018, with three pillars of the sport among the esteemed individuals being enshrined.

On February 26, the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum announced it will honour the late Phil Allen, Robert Davies, and Leighann Doan Reimer as well as nine other individuals or teams during a banquet in Red Deer on June 1.

The hoops trio, who make up one-quarter of this year’s Hall of Fame class, have made an indelible impact, each in their own way; Allen, who will be inducted in the builder category, is the winningest coach in Canadian college basketball history; Davies, who is receiving the Pioneer Award, helped create Edmonton and Alberta’s basketball officials associations; Reimer, who enters the Hall of Fame as an athlete, is one of the most decorated players to ever compete for the University of Calgary.

“ABA is pleased to have 3 basketball inductees in this year's group,” Alberta Basketball executive director Paul Sir says. “Bob Davies was instrumental in organizing adult and community league programs, Leanne had an extraordinary career at the U if C, and our dear friend Phil Allen is a legend. Three great contributors in distinct areas are being deservedly celebrated.”
