Alberta Basketball 3x3: Day 1 recap & Day 2 preview

The Summer of 3x3 tipped off Saturday in Edmonton, where the Saville Community Sports Centre played host to Day One of the eighth annual Alberta Basketball 3x3, as well as the Jr. NBA World Championship national regional finals.

In the Canada Quest division of 3x3, both Air Force and Bears went 4-0  on Saturday to finish atop their respective pools, and earn the top seeds for the playoff round on Sunday beginning with the quarter finals. Teams in the Canada Quest division are playing for $2,500 in prize money, as well as automatic berths in the upcoming Canada Quest National Finals and FIBA Edmonton Challenger events.

The Jr. NBA regional saw VK Basketball defeat Genesis 62-35 in the girls final, while AthElite topped Genesis 59-45 in the boys final. The winning teams will now move on to the Canada Regional, later this month in St. Catharines, Ont.

Nearly 70 teams total are participating in Alberta Basketball 3x3, which wraps up Sunday.

SUNDAY’S KEY EVENTS:

  • 12:20 p.m. - Canada Quest semi-finals
  • 1:20 p.m. - Long Distance Shootout finals
  • 2:00 p.m. - Canada Quest third place
  • 2:20 p.m. - Canada Quest final
