Alberta Basketball Association is proud to announce additions to its lineup that will help to grow the game in the southern parts of the province.
Holly Gibney has been hired as ABA’s Calgary Area Representative, while Dave Waknuk has been appointed ABA Lethbridge Area Representative.
With a diverse portfolio of sport marketing and management, Gibney brings a fresh perspective to ABA. A graduate of Arizona State University, she spent a decade in the United States working with the Phoenix Suns, the PGA of America, Turner Sports, and the National Basketball Association. She returned to Canada in 2000 to take a job with the Calgary Flames, and has since continued to support sport development by serving on boards including the Glenlake Hockey Association and Girls Hockey Calgary, while working alongside organizations such as the Canadian Sport Institute, Winsport and TSN.
A veteran of ABA programming who has been coaching with provincial teams since 2012, Waknuk is in his second season as head coach of the provincial U17 Girls after having guided the team to a fourth-place finish at the 2017 Canada Summer Games. He presently serves as assistant coach of the University of Lethbridge women’s basketball team, following a successful tenure as head coach of the women’s basketball team at Grande Prairie Regional College, where he guided the Wolves to an Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference women’s basketball championship in 2011.
