Six Albertans have been invited to participate in the Canada Basketball Women’s High Performance Age-Group Virtual Camp from December 14-18, 2020.

Tea Demong (Hinton), Yvonne Ejim (Calgary), Maya Fundall (St. Albert), Delaney Gibb (Raymond), Phillipina Kyei (Calgary), and Hannah Riddick (Calgary) are among top athletes from across the country on the list of invitees which was announced December 9.

"Alberta Basketball Association is pleased that our athletes are part of a national identification effort by Canada Basketball," says ABA Executive Director Paul Sir. "The unprecedented challenges we are all facing have eliminated many opportunities we took for granted. To have this avenue available is an example of ingenuity and creativity on the part of Canada Basketball. It is also a tribute to the athletes for being willing to put themselves out there in these difficult situations. We wish them all the best of luck."

The camp is being hosted online and will offer participants an opportunity to continue their development through online programming and training sessions. As a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Canada Basketball’s Women’s High Performance program has adapted over the past several months to deliver virtual programming to nationally identified age-group athletes.

This year’s virtual camp will feature five daily online sessions focused on individual player development including physical, social and emotional pillars, as well as growing their knowledge and understanding of the game.

Canada Basketball’s women’s high-performance program first launched online programming for its age-group players in May with weekly online summer sessions, a two-month series featuring expert presentations, panels, and Q&A sessions designed to: connect athletes and coaches with guest speaker;, continue technical and tactical conversations; discuss physical and mental performance education; create individual development plans; and to help athletes adapt to new training realities.

Many ABA athletes have participated in previous assessment camps, which are typically held annually in-person in December and March
