ABA alumni set for action in FIBA 3x3 Women's Series and Challenger events May 21 and 22

May. 20, 2021

Five Alberta Basketball Association alumni are set for elite international three-on-three competition this Friday (May 21) and Saturday (May 22)!

Katherine Plouffe (Edmonton) and Michelle Plouffe (Edmonton) are part of Team Canada, which is competing in the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series event in Voiron, France.

After more than a year, FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series returned to action May 15-16 in Switzerland. The Voiron event will be Team Canada’s first competition of 2021. Team Canada is seeded ninth for the event.

"It is great to see the Canada Basketball Women's Team back to compete on the FIBA3x3 Women's Series," says ABA Executive Director Paul Sir. "This is the toughest 9th seed that I believe no one wants to play. We wish the team great success on this first step back!"

Jordan Jensen-Whyte (Calgary), Kyle Landry (Calgary), and Steve Sir (Edmonton) are part of Team Edmonton, which is competing in the FIBA 3x3 Challengers event in Lipik, Croatia.

This is the first FIBA 3x3 Challenger event in 20 months. Team Edmonton is seeded fourth for the event. Challengers serve as the international qualifiers to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour. Team Edmonton also competes as Team Canada, which will take part in the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament May 26 - 30 in Graz, Austria.

This is a great opportunity for Team Canada to tune up for the OQT next week," says Paul Sir. "They have been preparing hard and now get to test themselves against top flight competition. Best of luck to the 3x3 team making history for Canada!"
