Jul. 24, 2021

Alberta’s Yvonne Ejim and Hannah Riddick will represent their country at the upcoming FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2021, which takes place Aug. 7-15 in Debrecen, Hungary.

Yvonne and Hannah, both from Calgary, are among 12 players that Canada Basketball named to their U19 women’s team in an announcement made July 22.

“Alberta Basketball Association congratulates Yvonne and Hannah on their selection to Team Canada," says Paul Sir, Alberta Basketball Association executive director. "They are tremendous players, and we know they will represent the nation, province and themselves with character, effort and dignity. Best of luck to Hannah, Yvonne, and Canada’s U19 team."

Canada is in Group D and will face Japan (August 7, 8:00 AM ET), Czech Republic (August 8, 5:00 AM ET), and Mali (August 10, 5:00 AM ET). Click here for the full tournament schedule.

This will be Yvonne’s fourth time representing her country. She suited up for Canada at the 2017 U16 FIBA Americas Championship, 2018 U17 FIBA World Cup, and 2019 U19 FIBA World Cup.

Yvonne is coming off a fantastic freshman season with the Gonzaga Bulldogs, in which she was named to the WCC All-Tournament Team after leading the Bulldogs with 13 points and 9 rebounds in Gonzaga’s dramatic 43-42 victory over BYU in the 2021 WCC Championship Game.

Prior to Gonzaga, Ejim went to Edge School for Athletics. During her stellar high school career, Yvonne was a two-time (2019 and 2020) Bio Steel All-Canadian Game selection.

Yvonne was part of Team Alberta at the Basketball Canada National Championships in 2016 (U15), 2018 and 2019 (U17), and represented her province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

This will be the second time Hannah has been part of Team Canada. She represented her country at the 2019 U16 FIBA Americas Championship.

Hannah played for Team Alberta at the U15 National Championships in 2018, when she was named a Second Team All-Star, and she won silver as a member of Alberta's U17 team at the 2019 National Championships.

Hannah has committed to the University of Memphis, where she will be part of the Tigers women’s basketball team beginning with the upcoming season.
