On Monday (Nov. 14), Team Alberta alumna Yvonne Ejim of the Gonzaga Bulldogs was named the West Coast Conference women's basketball Player of the Week. The Calgary native is the first player to receive the weekly honour for the 2022-23 season.

A junior forward, Ejim helped Gonzaga to a pair of double-figure victories over Long Beach State and Southern Utah last week, averaging 19.0 points 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals while shooting 57.1% from the field.

In Gonzaga’s season-opener against Long Beach State, Ejim shot nine of thirteen from the field, as she matched her career high with 22 points, and pulled down 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Against Southern Utah, Ejim scored 16 points and had four steals.

“Congratulations to Yvonne on being named WCC Player of the Week,” says Paul Sir, Alberta Basketball Association Executive Director.  “What an incredible start to the season. This is going to be a great junior year for Yvonne, and we look forward to watching her continued success at Gonzaga.”
