ABA alum Yvonne Ejim wins second straight WCC Player of the Week award

On Monday (Nov. 21), Team Alberta alumna Yvonne Ejim of the Gonzaga Bulldogs was named the West Coast Conference women's basketball Player of the Week. T

The Calgary native has now received the honour in back-to-back weeks to start the 2022-23 WCC season.

A junior forward, Ejim averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals, while shooting 56.4 percent from the field in a week where the Bulldogs went 2-1, including a victory over No. 6 Louisville, the highest-ranked opponent the Bulldogs have defeated in program history.

Ejim recorded a career-high 26 points in a 66-64 defeat of Wyoming, scoring the winning points with 10 seconds remaining. She also had 13 points and nine boards in the victory over Louisville and notched nine points and 11 rebounds in a loss to Marquette.

“Yvonne has taken her game to the next level and continues to make the case that she is one of the stars in women's basketball, not just for Gonzaga and the WCC but in the entire country,” says Paul Sir, Alberta Basketball Association’s executive director. “She is a class act and special person from a wonderful family, and ABA is very happy for Yvonne.”
