2021 Targeted Athlete Strategy

Alberta Basketball's Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS) is part of a national program providing identified athletes with an individualized training and development program that fosters long-term growth as a skilled athlete and maximizes potential for a professional playing career and representing Canada internationally. The TAS has helped a number of aspiring Alberta players, male and female, on their path to Team Canada.

Overview

ABA is pleased to announce our 2020 Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS) Program. With COVID-19 guidelines and considerations in mind, ABA has been working with community stakeholders and the TAS Program Coaches on our plan to safely offer the TAS Program across the province this Fall with the capacity for adaptation moving forward.

TAS Program athletes will be invited to participate in the program based on prior identification through Provincial and National pathways and through community consultation with coaches and regional club organizations.

Program sessions will begin in Calgary and Edmonton. Other location start dates will be updated in the upcoming weeks.

Program Description

Alberta Basketball's Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS) Program is aligned with the Team Alberta Provincial Program, Canada Basketball's Cadet & Junior National Team programs as well as with Canada Basketball’s player development curriculum. The TAS Program provides identified athletes with individualized training and a development program that fosters long-term growth as a skilled athlete and that may maximize athlete development pathways that may lead to the potential for post-secondary considerations, a professional playing career and representing Canada internationally. The TAS Program has helped a number of aspiring Alberta athletes, male and female, on their path towards representing Alberta and Team Canada.

The TAS Program sessions will be compliant with the current ABA Return to Play Guidelines. All protocols will be followed to allow for the safest return to the court possible for all participants; including: COVID-19 Updated waivers, daily signed attestations, contact tracing logs. As well as facility specific disinfectant and hygiene protocols followed prior to and in between each session.

Program format will be dependent upon each region and will be based on athlete participation.

Details will be provided for the 2021 program late July
