Welcome to Basketball Alberta's New Section highlighting the week to week basketball happenings in the province. A big part of this section will be contrbutions from you! We want to hear how your seasons are going, how your teams are doing and what exciting things are on the horizon with the game of basketball in communities across Alberta.
Basketball is one of the top 3 participation sports in Alberta and there are many great players doing special things everyday. From Mini ball to College and University great players are having special seasons... and we want to hear about it! Our first new feature will be the Basketball Alberta Player of the Week. Each week, you the basketball community, will have the opportunity to nominate athletes to be selected as the BA P.O.W! The submissions are open to any player on any team at any level across the province. Submissions will be accepted for the previous week until Monday at midnight with the selections being made Tuesday of each week. We will select 1 female and 1 male athlete each week to be honored. The winners will receive their own write up on the Basketball Alberta website highlighting their accomplishments from the previous week and some BA Gear!

All these talents players having great seasons would not be possible without the help and guidance of great coaches. So many men and women across Alberta dedicate countless hours, most of who are volunteers, to coach, teach and better the basketball athletes in this province. They deserve to be acknowledged as well! Basketball Alberta is proud to now have a Coach of the Month Award! Players, Parents, Fellow Coaches can take the opportunity to nominate a special coach who has done an exeptional job leading his or her team. Basketball Alberta will accept nominations unitl the 30th of each month for this award with 2 coaches being selected (1 Male and 1 Female) to be honored. They will each receive their own write up on the BA Website and some BA Gear!

High School Basketball in Alberta has always been excellent. Many great programs with long term success with new teams getting more and competitive each year have built a province wide association that always results in many excellent games. Storied tournaments like the REB Invitational and Raymond Sugar Bowl are always highlights of the High School season. Basketball Alberta will highlight as many of these great tournaments and regular season match ups as we can, along with posting the latest rankings in the province.
