ABA is pleased to have our Canada Basketball Academy running again this year. Athletes will be invited to register for program tryouts via the ABA website for the Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Northwest (Fairview, Peace River) locations.
The Canada Basketball (CB) Academy is aligned with the Team Alberta Provincial Program, Canada Basketball's Cadet & Junior National Team programs as well as with Canada Basketball’s player development curriculum. There will be two age groups for boys and girls, 15U (2009, 2010, 2011) and 18U (2006, 2007, 2008). These age groupings will coincide with the athlete identification process for the 2024 Canada Basketball 15U and 17U Boys and Girls National Championships.
The CB Academy will focus on athlete skill development and playing within team concepts in all phases of the game. On-court training/sessions will be led by top post-secondary, club and high school coaches from the local area utilizing curriculum developed by ABA and the Canada Basketball High Performance directive.
The 2023 CB Academy is an integral step in ABA’s pathway to identify athletes for the 2024 Team Alberta Program. This pathway may also include participation in the Alberta ID Camp, TAS Program, and the Team Alberta Open ID and Assessment Camps.
All athletes participating in Academy Programs this fall will be invited to register and attend the Alberta ID Camp weekend, more details to be announced.
Program format will be dependent upon each region and will be based on athlete participation.
