Dec. 06, 2019

Five Albertans have been invited to Canada Basketball’s Women's National Age-Group Assessment Camps at Humber College in Toronto, Dec. 12-16, 2019.

Tea Demong, Yvonne Ejim, Delaney Gibb, Phillipina Kyei and Hannah Riddick will participate n the camp, which will include participants from across the country, and is used to identify players for Canada Basketball’s 2020 national teams.

Athletes born in 2003 or later will be assessed for participation on the U17 team, which will compete next year at the FIBA U17 Women's World Cup 2020 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Athletes born in 2002 or later will be assessed for their participation on the U18 team, which will compete next year at the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship 2020.

All five of the Alberta athletes have played for Alberta Basketball’s provincial teams. Ejim has represented her country the last three summers, as a member of Team Caanda at the 2017 FIBA Women’s U16 Americas Championship, 2018 FIBA Women’s U17 World Cup, and 2019 FIBA Women’s U17 World Cup.

'Alberta continues to progress in the number of athletes being invited to the age group camps for national teams consideration,” says Paul Sir, executive director of the Alberta Basketball Association. “Best of luck to the girls as they compete for the opportunity to represent Canada!”

The camp provides a national training environment with an international focus. Participants undergo physical testing, attend educational sessions in the sport sciences, develop individual performance plans, and compete against the best in their age-group.

"We are excited to see the top nationally identified athletes compete and challenge themselves in our world class training environment.  As part of their long-term development, our staff will provide direction on next steps in their individual performance plans as we prepare for this summer's U17 and U18 teams," said Denise Dignard, Canada Basketball’s Director of Women's High Performance.
