2023 Arctic Winter Games - Jan 29 - Feb 4, 2023

 

The Arctic Winter Games is a high profile circumpolar sport competition for northern and arctic athletes.  The Games provide an opportunity to strengthen sport development in the participants’ jurisdictions, to promote the benefits of sport, to build partnerships, and to promote culture and values.  The Games celebrate sport, social exchange and cultures. The Games provide an opportunity for the developing athlete to compete in friendly competition while sharing cultural values from northern regions around the world. 

Held every two years, the Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games will include athletes from the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Alaska, Greenland, Nunavik (Northern Quebec), Northern Alberta and the Indigenous people (Sami) of Norway, Sweden and Finland.

ABA will be accepting applications for two coaches for each Men’s and Women’s 20U teams.

  • Athletes born in 2003 or later are eligible to participate

    • Resident of Alberta North (north of 55th parallel)

 

AWGIC Safe Sport Policy indicates:

All adult participants, including Officials, Mission Staff, Coaches and Chaperones, are required to complete the appropriate level of background screening within their jurisdiction (e.g. police records checks/vulnerable sector checks). 

Following the technical package and the safe sport policy, Team Alberta North’s minimum requirements for coaches for the Arctic Winter Games are as follows:

  • Must be a Certified Competition Introduction (Learn to Train) Coach or Competition Development (Train to Train) Trained Coach within the National Coaching Certification Program in the sport in which they will coach. Coaches of Arctic Sports, Dene Games, and Snowshoeing are the exceptions to this rule.

  • Must be certified with National Coaching Certification Program Making Ethical Decisions;

  • Criminal record check/vulnerable sector check - completed within one year of the AWG’s.

 

Alberta Basketball believes in equity and equality in our hiring practices.  Coaches from all backgrounds, genders, races, religions, orientations and locations within the province are encouraged to apply.  We will work with the chosen coach(es) to make the opportunity work with unique scheduling needs and situations as they arise.

*Provincial Sport Organizations may require additional training and/or certifications of their coaches for the Arctic Winter Games.

Canada Quest is back!
 

Compete for a chance to be part of the inaugural Canada Quest 3X3 National Championships!

Men’s and Women’s winners will represent Alberta and compete at the Canada Quest 3X3 National Championships taking place from July 7-10, 2022 in Toronto  The Provinces will be competing for a $15,000.00 championship prize. All expenses (airfare and accommodations) will be paid by Canada Basketball.
