Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) mourns the loss of former ABA board member Brian Anstice.
Anstice was a pillar of amateur sport, coaching for more than four decades in many sports, including basketball and football. Affectionately known as “Coach Brian”, Anstice served seven years as head coach of the women’s basketball team at The King’s University, beginning in 2017.
He volunteered his time to many organizations, including Edmonton Youth Basketball, ABA and the Cure Cancer Foundation.
“The basketball community lost a giant in Brian Anstice,” says Dave Drabiuk, ABA Executive Director. “Seeing the outpouring of love in the wake of his passing is a testament to Brian's impact on the game, and the lives he touched. From grassroots to post-secondary Brian's influence can be seen and felt in the legacy of the players and coaches that he mentored and trained.
“Throughout his courageous battle he was an inspiration by his perseverance and toughness and everyone that had the opportunity to meet Brian will undoubtedly have a positive story to share. He will be missed greatly and we are grateful for everything he has done for Alberta Basketball, basketball, and the youth of Alberta.”
ABA extends heartfelt condolences to the family of friends of Anstice.
