"The Games were an unforgettable journey. Playing was both challenging and rewarding. My teammates became like family. The AWG helped me grow, not just as a basketball player but as a person."
— Kurt Saluna, Team Alberta North 2023
Northern Sport Coordinator & U19 Men’s Head Coach - AWG 2026
“The AWG are about more than wins and losses — they’re about building a sustainable basketball culture in northern Alberta. We’re not just preparing athletes for a tournament; we’re developing leaders and creating a model that will last well beyond 2026. We’re excited to showcase what the North can do.”

“Not only did I get to spend a whole week playing basketball, but I also made lifelong friends. The coaching staff was great, and I learned a lot to improve my game. If I had the chance to do it again, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second.”
“The Games showed me that hard work and determination pay off. It gave me the confidence to believe I could play at the collegiate level. Alberta needs to keep this momentum going — the Winter Games are where dreams begin.”
“Living together in the camp brought us closer — not just as teammates, but as friends. We shared victories, learned from setbacks, and built memories I’ll never forget. If you’re a young athlete considering the Games, don’t hesitate.”
