Mar. 01, 2018

On Sunday, February 25, 2018, the Alberta Basketball Association hosted a forum in Red Deer to inform the province-wide basketball community of the details of the ABA Official Sanctioning Program that will be taking effect September 1, 2018.

Bob Mitchell, ABA's Board of Directors President, served as emcee and an outstanding group of presenters explained the reasons why sanctioning by the sport of basketball's official governing body is essential for the safety and well being of all participants.

Presenters included:

  • Dawn Smyth, Director, Domestic Development, Canada Basketball
  • Greg Francis, Manager Men's High Performance for Canada Basketball and Alberta Basketball Association
  • Morgan Munroe, Chairman of the Canada Basketball Officials Council and Canadian Association of Basketball Officials Executive Representative
  • Marvin Washington, University of Alberta Business Chair, ABA Board of Directors, former Edmonton Youth Basketball Association president, club and provincial team coach

Alberta Basketball Executive Director Paul Sir detailed the sanctioning program, followed by a question and discussion period.

“This is a much-needed initiative and ABA looks forward to working with all organizations to effectively roll out the sanctioning program this coming September,” Sir says.
