Masikewich to play in BioSteel Women's Showcase

Apr. 03, 2018

Team Alberta’s Brynn Masikewich has been selected to the inaugural BioSteel All-Canadian Women’s Showcase on Sunday in Athlete Institute in Orangeville, Ont.

The Calgary native is the only player from outside of Quebec or Ontario among the 24 athletes who will compete in the new event, which takes place at 4 p.m. MT on April 8, a day before the fourth annual BioSteel All-Canadian Basketball Game.

Masikewich is a Grade 11 student at Lincoln Prep in Hamilton. Ont. The 17-year-old previously attended St. Francis high school in her hometown.

A six-foot-three forward, Masikewich has played multiple years for Alberta Basketball’s provincial teams, including at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.  She made her international debut last year, winning silver as part of Canada Basketball’s team at the FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship in Buenos Ares, where she was the only player in the entire eight-team event to average a double-double, ranking second among all competitors in points per game (12.0) and first in rebounds (10.2).

Masikewich is one of two Albertans who will be part of the BioSteel All-Canadian events, joining former Team Alberta athlete Adong Makoui. Adong, an Edmonton product, is competing in Monday’s game, at the University of Toronto’s Goldring Centre, which will be broadcast live across the TSN network on April 9 at 6 p.m. MT.
