Oct. 17, 2024

A new court celebrating the legendary Edmonton Grads has been unveiled outside of John A. McDougall School in Edmonton.

Featuring the Grads logo in black and gold at centre court, and the name of every Grads player on the poles of the hoops, the court pays tribute to the team that holds the North American record for the women's sports team with the best winning percentage.

The court, which was designed by local artist Pete Nguyen, also features the colours and logo of John A. McDougall school on the backboards.

From 1915 to 1940, the Edmonton Grads posted a record of 412-20, while winning 19 national championships, 17 North American championships and 16 World championships. Many of the players attended John A. McDougall School, which first opened in 1913.

The court is a joint project between Sport Edmonton, the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Public Schools, and Explore Edmonton, and is a legacy project of the 2024 U Sports Final 8 Women’s Basketball Championship that was hosted by the University of Alberta.
