The senior forward made history by eclipsing 2,166 career points during the second quarter of Gonzagaโs 69-58 victory over the Saint Mary's Gaels at McKeon Pavillion in Moraga, Calif., on Feb. 6. Heather Bowman had previously held the record with 2,165 points.
โIt is just a really an amazing feeling to know that I did this for my team, for the school and for this program,โ said Ejim. โI am very excited and very happy I got to this accolade. I know a lot of people were rooting for me, especially Heather Bowman, so it is just great to be up there with some amazing people who have come before me in this program. I hope that my path right now just builds a new legacy for players to come.โ
The record continued an amazing week for Ejim, who was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Midseason Watch List on Feb. 3, the Women's College All-Star Game Midseason Watch List on Feb. 4, and the Top 10 List for Katrina McClain Award on Feb. 6.
A native of Calgary, Ejim spent several years involved with ABA provincial team programming. She represented her province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games and at the Canada Basketball National Championships in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
โCongratulations to Yvonne on this tremendous and historic accomplishment,โ said Dave Drabiuk, ABA Executive Director. โShe is a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work and following your dreams and continues to make us all proud on and off the court.โ
