Alberta Basketball Association alumnus Nate Petrone of the Calgary Dinos is the Canada West Menโs Basketball Player of the Year, the conference announced on March 6.

The 2024-25 season saw the fourth-year guard lead Canada West in scoring with an average of 24.2 points per game, while shooting 57 percent on field goals, 43% on three-point field goals, and 89% on free-throws. In 20 games, he totalled totalled 99 assists, the third most assists this season.
Petrone and the Dinos have advanced to the Canada West championship final, where they will face the UBC Thunderbirds at War Memorial Gymnasium in Vancouver on March 7.
A native of Calgary, Petrone represented Alberta at the 2017 Canada Basketball 17U Boys National Championships.
