A trio of Albertans have been selected in the 2025 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Draft. The CEBL announced on April 10 the results from its annual draft, which comprises student-athletes from Canadian post-secondary institutions.
Declan Peterson (hometown: Bentley) was taken third overall by the Saskatchewan Rattles, Geoffrey James (hometown: Edmonton) was picked 5th overall by the Winnipeg Sea Bears, and Will Tong (hometown: Calgary) was drafted 26th overall by the Calgary Surge.

Peterson helped the Calgary Dinos capture the 2025 Canada West men’s basketball championship. The third-year centre averaged 7.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 Canada West regular season.
James helped the Victoria Vikes win gold at the 2025 U Sports men’s basketball Final 8. The fourth-year guard averaged 9.4 points and 3.4 rebounds during the 2024-25 Canada West regular season.
Will Tong was named to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) men’s All-Conference North Division First Team. The first-year forward averaged 10.0 points and 5.9 rebounds during the 2024-25 ACAC regular season.
