ABA teams up with Fresh Nets to kick off outdoor hoops season

Apr. 24, 2025

The Fresh Nets Foundation is partnering with Alberta Basketball Association to kick off the outdoor basketball season with its biggest ever one-day rollout in Edmonton on April 27.

Volunteers will be visiting communities around the city on Sunday, setting up fresh nets on basketball hoops. By afternoon’s end, a total of 100 new nets will have been installed at outdoor courts.

"We're thrilled to announce our partnership with Alberta Basketball for the 2025 Fresh Nets program,” says Reed Clarke, Fresh Nets Foundation founder. “This initiative reflects our shared commitment to revitalizing community spaces and ensuring that every player, from beginners to aspiring professionals, has access to play the game we love.”

Fresh Nets is a grassroots initiative to replace every outdoor basketball mesh in Edmonton. Since its launch, Fresh Nets has installed or replaced over 1,000 nets and rims at locations around the city and as far away as Africa.

“The collaboration with Fresh Nets and Alberta Basketball is a fantastic opportunity for us to reach the essence of the game: the playground and community court,” says Dave Drabiuk, Alberta Basketball Association executive director. “Through this partnership we hope to reach community courts around the province to provide fresh nets to keep the enthusiasm for the game alive.”

Alberta Basketball Association is the governing body for the sport of basketball in Alberta.
