Kapinga joins the Griffins after serving as head coach the Olds College men’s basketball team in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference in 2024-25. He spent the prior two seasons as an assistant coach for the Calgary Dinos men’s basketball team.
As a player, Kapinga led the Dinos to a national championship while being named MVP of the U Sports men’s Final 8 in 2018. He was also a two-time U Sports silver medalist during his career as a student-athlete.
Kapinga is in his second year as head coach of the Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) men’s U15 provincial team. Last summer, he guided the team to a bronze medal at the 2024 Canada Basketball national championships.
“Congratulations to David on being named head coach of the Griffins,” says Dave Drabiuk, Executive Director of ABA. “At ABA we’ve seen firsthand the talent and ability of David, and know he will make a tremendous impact on the MacEwan program.”
