Albertans played a key role in Canada’s silver-medal performance at the FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2025, which ran from June 16 to 22 in Irapuato, Mexico.
Guard Pippa Gibb (hometown: Raymond) and forward Emerald Nnani (hometown: Edmonton) were part of the Canadian roster that finished second at the tournament, while former Team Alberta head coach Robyn Fleckenstein was part of Canada’s staff.
Canada placed atop the Group B standings with a record of 3-0, and advanced to the gold medal game after defeating Puerto Rico in the quarter-finals and Colombia in the semi-finals. The United States beat Canada in the final at Inforum Irapuato on Sunday (June 22) night.
By virtue of finishing in the top four at the U18 Women’s AmeriCup 2024, Canada qualifies for next year’s FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 in Czechia.
