ABA announces coaching staffs for 2026 Arctic Winter Games

Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) has announced the coaching staffs for the Alberta North teams that will compete in basketball at the 2026 Arctic Winter Games, taking place March 8 to 15 in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Head coach Wayne Dunnington will be joined by assistant coach Taylor Hulme and apprentice coach Bryan Kobbert on the men’s team. The women’s team will be led by Travis Duncan along with assistant coach Brayden Noskey and apprentice coach Amy Van Brabant.

The Arctic Winter Games are a high-profile Circumpolar sport competition for northern and arctic participants. Participants come from Alaska, Northern Alberta, Yukon, Nunavut, Nunavik, Northwest Territories, Greenland, Finland and Norway.

Men’s Team

  • Wayne Dunnington - Head Coach Dunnington has been involved in extra-curricular events and coaching for more than a decade at T.A Norris Middle School and Peace River High School. He served as head coach of the Alberta U20 men’s basketball at the 2023 Arctic Winter Games. 
  • Taylor Hulme - Assistant Coach Hulme currently serves as Athletic Director at Peace River High School, while pursuing a Master of Arts in Sport Coaching. He has coached teams in both basketball and football.
  • Byran Kobbert - Apprentice Coach A graduate of the University of Lethbridge, Kobbert served as assistant coach of the Fairview High School senior men’s basketball team in 2024-25. He has also coached at Hines Creek Composite School.

Women’s Team

  • Travis Duncan - Head Coach Duncan has more than two decades of coaching experience across high school, club, and provincial programs. He founded and directs Swan City Basketball and is head coach of the boys’ basketball team at Peace Wapiti Academy in Grande Prairie.
  • Brayden Noskey - Assistant Coach A product of High Prairie, Noskey has experience in both school and community basketball programs. She coached the EW Pratt senior girls’ basketball team to multiple tournament championships last season.
  • Amy Van Brabant - Apprentice Coach Van Brabant is a teacher who recently coached the Ecole McTavish High School junior girls basketball team to a Fort McMurray city championship. She played post-secondary basketball at Concordia University College of Edmonton.
