Position Description

The Events and Membership Coordinator is a key member of the Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) team, responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of ABA events and membership initiatives. Operating from the ABA Edmonton office and at event venues throughout Alberta, this full-time, permanent position (37.5 hours/week) supports the growth of ABA programs by expanding existing events, developing new community-driven experiences, and enhancing membership engagement opportunities. The role requires strong organizational skills, a focus on member relations, logistical expertise, stakeholder collaboration, and an active presence at events. Proficiency with member management platforms is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and deliver ABA competitions, tournaments, festivals, and championships to ensure participation growth and event quality.
• Scale and improve existing events and design new competitions aligning with Canada Basketball and community needs.
• Manage venue selection, logistics, partnerships, scheduling, tournament structure, registration processes, and on-site operations.
• Recruit, schedule, and supervise volunteers, officials, and staff for events.
• Serve as the main contact for athletes, coaches, clubs, parents, venue partners, and event stakeholders.
• Support ABA’s annual events such as Hall of Fame celebration and awards program.
• Manage ABA’s member management platform, ensuring accurate and timely processing of all registrations, renewals, and payments
• Prepare monthly membership reports, track growth and retention, and deliver responsive support to all membership inquiries.
• Collaborate on community outreach, partnership development, and event marketing and promotion.
• Collect, analyze, and act on event and membership feedback data.
• Maintain up-to-date and compliant records for Canada Basketball affiliation and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to budgeting, financial tracking, and post-event reporting.

Qualifications and Attributes

• Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience in Sport Administration, Event Management, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in competition or event management, ideally within the sports sector.
• Demonstrated ability to scale programs or launch new events is a strong asset.
• Proficiency with event management platforms, registration systems, such as RAMP, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and website content management.
• Strong understanding of basketball operations, tournament formats, and ideally experience within the Alberta basketball community.
• Exceptional organizational, multitasking, and analytical skills.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
• Creative, energetic, team-oriented, highly motivated, and adaptable to changing circumstances.
• Ability to work evenings, occasional weekends, and travel as required.
• Physical ability to lift and move event equipment up to 40 lbs
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
• Ability to provide an up-to-date Enhanced Criminal Record Check.

Compensation

This is a salaried position with a salary range of $54,000 - $62,000. Employees are eligible for the employee benefits program after successfully completing a probationary period.
