Raymond’s Delaney Gibb will represent Canada at the FIBA U16 Americas Women’s Championship 2021, Aug. 23-29 in León, Guanajuato, Mexico.
A 15-year-old shooting guard, Delaney was among 12 players Canada Basketball named to its U16 national team. The roster was announced Aug. 19, following a selection/training camp at Humber College in Etobicoke, Ont., from Aug. 10 to 19.
This is Delaney’s first time playing for a national team. She attended by invite Canada Basketball’s Women's National Age-Group Assessment Camps at Humber College in December 2019.
Delaney played for Team Alberta Girls U15 at the 2019 Canada Basketball National Championships in Victoria, B.C., where she was named a First Team All-Star after helping Alberta to a tournament-best record of 5-1.
Canada is in Group A and will face Brazil (August 23, 1:30 PM MT), Costa Rica (August 24, 10:30 AM MT) and Puerto Rico (August 25, 10:30 AM ET). All teams advance to the quarterfinals, with the winners advancing to the semifinals and qualifying for the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup 2022. All games will be streamed live on FIBA’s YouTube channel.
