Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) was well represented when FIBA released its list of the top men’s and women’s 3x3 players for every country at the start of 2022, as ABA alumni Steve Sir and Michelle Plouffe, both of Edmonton, were ranked No. 1 in Canada (Check out full list on the FIBA 3x3 website).
Steve, who has played in 44 FIBA 3x3 events in his career, was No. 86 in the Men’s 3x3 World Ranking with 121,566 ranking points.
“3x3 has been an experience I've been extremely fortunate to share with family and friends,” Steve says. “It has allowed me the honour of representing Canada around the world and reinvigorated my love for basketball.”
Michelle, who has played in 10 FIBA 3x3 events in her career, was No. 173 in the Women’s 3x3 World Ranking with 72.528 ranking points.
“It's a great opportunity to compete at a high level at some epic venues all over the world and meet great people along the way,” Michelle says of FIBA 3x3.
With the news of Steve and Michelle’s rankings, Edmonton continues to be at the forefront of 3x3 in Canada and around the world. ABA has annually staged the country’s longest-running FIBA-sanctioned 3x3 tournament, and successfully hosted national championships and international events including the FIBA 3x3 Edmonton Challenger and Women's Series at West Edmonton Mall. Additionally, The Edmonton EXPO Centre is home of the Canada 3x3 Training Centre.
Congratulations, Steve and Michelle.
