Four Albertans, the most out any province outside of Ontario and Quebec, will be taking part in this year's March Madness.
Yvonne Ejim and Phillipina Kyei will compete in the 2022 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, while Clayton Henry and Aher Uguak are playing in the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Calgary's Ejim is a sophomore forward with the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who play their first round game in the women’s tournament against Nebraska in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday (March 18) at a time TBD. The Bulldogs qualified for the women’s tourney by winning the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championship.
Calgary's Kyei is a freshman centre with the Oregon Ducks, who play their first round game in the women's tournament against Belmont on Saturday (March 20) in Knoxville, Tennessee, at 3:#0pm MST. Oregon received an at-large bid to the NCAA women's tournament after reaching the semi-finals of the Pac-12 women's basketball tournament.
Calgary's Henry is a senior guard with the New Mexico State Aggies, who play their first round of the men's tournament in Buffalo on Thursday (March 18) at 4:50pm MST against Connecticut. The Aggies qualified for the men's tourney by winning the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championship.
Edmonton’s Uguak is a senior forward on the Loyola Ramblers, who play in the first round of the men’s tournament on Friday (March 19) at 10:15am MST against Ohio State in Pittsburgh. Loyola punched its ticket to the men’s tournament when they won the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championship.
Ejim has played 32 games this season for Gonzaga, averaging 10.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks. She was named the WCC Sixth Woman of the Year along with being selected to the All-WCC Second Team.
Kyei is averaging 3.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks through 27 games with the Ducks.
Henry has appeared in 24 games with New Mexico State, averaging 5.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.2 blocks.
Uguak has averages of 9.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.3 points in 31 games for Loyola this season. He was selected MVC All-Defensive Team for the second year in a row.
