ABA alum Summer Maskiewich wins U Sports Defensive Player of the Year award

Alberta Basketball Association alum Summer Masikewich was named Defensive Player of the Year at the U Sports All-Canadian Awards in Kingston, Ont., on Wednesday (March 30).

The Saskatchewan Huskies forward, who hails from Calgary, was also named a Second-Team All Canadian. It was her second All-Canadian honour, after being named to the First Team in 2019-20.

Summer finished second in Canada West this season with 1.6 blocks per game, to go along with 1.2 steals per game. Additionally, she ranked fifth In Canada West with 9.6 rebounds per game, including 6.0 per game on the defensive end.?She was named the Canada West Defensive Player of the Year for the second time of her career, with the first coming in 2018-19, and helped lead the Huskies to the conference championship.
