Teams representing each of the country’s 10 provinces as well as a team representing the Northwest Territories are competing at the championships, which run through Saturday, Aug. 5. This marks the first time Calgary has hosted Nationals since the Championships' current format was introduced in 2002.
Alberta’s 17U team opens its schedule against B.C. at 3.45 pm Monday in the Jack Simpson Gym, while Alberta’s 15U begins play by taking on Ontario at 3:45 p.m. in the Red Gym on the University of Calgary campus.
Sarah Neufeld, University of Calgary women's basketball assistant coach, is head coach of Alberta's 15U women's team. University of Alberta women's basketball associate head coach Isabel Ormond is head coach of Alberta's 17U women's team.
The Canada Basketball National Championships take place annually each summer, with women's 15U and 17U and men's 15U and 17U tournaments. Team Alberta has a rich history in the championships, including last year when all four Alberta teams placed in the top four, with the women's 17U and men's 15U both capturing bronze.
