On March 12, Chris King of the Lakeland College Rustlers women’s basketball team was named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year.
King, who is in his 16th season at Lakeland, received the award in Lloydminster., where the 2024 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship are taking place from March 13-16.

The Rustlers went undefeated during the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference regular season, with a perfect 20-0 record, then won gold in the ACAC playoffs.
Additionally, a trio of ACAC student-athletes were honoured as part of the 2023-24 CCAA women’s basketball awards: Lakeland Rustlers point guard Hineaupounamu Nuku was named Women’s Basketball Player of the Year as well as an All-Canadian, while Red Deer Polytechnic Queens point guard Sandra Garcia Bernal and guard Hannah Helton of the Lethbridge Kodiaks were also named All-Canadians.
