Trio of Albertans to attend SWNT Training Camp in Edmonton

May. 17, 2024

Three Alberta athletes are set to take part in the Canada Basketball Senior Women’s National Team (SWNT) training camp at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton from May 20 to 23.

Yvonne Ejim (hometown: Calgary), Delaney Gibb (Raymond), and Phillipina Kyei (Calgary) are among the 17 camp attendees who were announced by Canada Basketball on May 16. The team is preparing for the 2024 Olympic Games, taking place in Paris this summer.

“Next week in Edmonton, we’re excited to continue our work preparing for Paris as we welcome back many familiar faces within our Senior Women’s National Team program as well as some new members to the Canada Basketball family,” said Víctor Lapeña, Head Coach of Canada’s SWNT. “Over several days of training together, we will be focused on improving every day and establishing an environment and team culture critical to our success at the Olympic Games.”

The SWNT has called Edmonton home since 2013, regularly hosting training camps, competitions, and community activities. Canada is making its fourth consecutive appearance in women’s basketball at the Summer Games.

Ejim, Gibb, and Kyei were all part of Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) youth programming, and played for Team Alberta at the Canada Basketball 15U and 17U women’s National Championships.
