Alberta teams were perfect on Wednesday (Aug. 7), combining to win all three of their games at the 2024 Canada Basketball National Championships in St. John’s and Toronto.

At Memorial University of Newfoundland, Alberta’s 15U Girls team won twice, starting off the day with a 74-41 victory over Manitoba and closing it out by defeating the host squad from Newfoundland 98-35. Grace Neilson led Alberta with 15 points against Manitoba, Ailey Marshall was Alberta’s top scorer in the win over Newfoundland, with 19 points. Emerald Nnani grabbed 16 rebounds against Newfoundland, and now leads all players in the 15U Girls championship with an average of 12.3 rebounds per game.
In Toronto, Alberta’s 15U Boys team defeated Nova Scotia 89-73 to advance to the semi-finals. Alberta was led in scoring by Mikhail Francis and Liam Mitakaro, with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Alberta’s 15U Boys will now face an opponent to be determined, on Friday (Aug. 9).
Thursday (Aug. 8) will be the Battle at the Prairies at the National Championships, with three different games pitting Alberta against Saskatchewan: The 17U Girls teams will play at 7:45 am MT, The 15U Girls will meet at 10 am MT, and the 17U Boys teams will play each other in the quarterfinal round at 11:30 a.m. MT.
