Alberta Golden Bears coach Barnaby Craddock to lead the Edmonton Stingers

The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) have announced Barnaby Craddock as the first-ever head coach in franchise history.

Craddock has become an integral part of the local hoops community since becoming head coach of the University of Alberta Golden Bears men's basketball in 2012-13. He has led the Bears to the Canada West championship in 2014 and 2017 and made multiple trips to the U Sports Final 8 national championship tournament. This season he coached the Bears to to a 15-5 record, and is currently preparing the team for their best-of-three semi-final series against UBC at the Saville Sports Centre, starting Feb. 22.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Barnaby as the first-ever head coach in Stingers franchise history,” said Stingers President and COO Lee Genier. “He has a proven track record as a winning coach on the national stage and has strong ties to the community. I know that the people of Edmonton are in for some very exciting basketball starting in May and Barnaby is the right person to lead the team in its historic inaugural season.”

The Stingers will play ten home games at the Edmonton Expo Centre, with their season opener scheduled for May 10, at 7 p.m. against the Niagara River Lions.
