“We are thrilled to announce these new details,” says Paul Sir, Executive Director of Alberta Basketball Association (ABA). “ICE District Plaza is a spectacular setting to showcase 3x3 at its highest levels, and we are looking forward to three days of tremendous competition and experiencing the energy from the crowds in downtown Edmonton.”

Canada’s lineup features hometown heroes Michelle and Katherine Plouffe, who just last month helped their national team capture silver at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Belgium.

Three of the top six teams in the current FIBA 3x3 World Tour standings, Antwerp (third), Princeton (fourth), and Amsterdam (sixth) are slated to compete at the ABA Edmonton Challenger 2022, July 30-31, which serves as a qualifier for the FIBA 3x3 Montreal Masters in September. Edmonton boasts a rich history of world class 3x3 competition, having previously hosted two hugely popular Challenger events in 2018 and 2019, as well as the inaugural Women’s Series Final Stop in 2019

The 2022 events were set to take place at Hawrelak Park during the Edmonton Heritage Festival, before being moved due to circumstances beyond the organizers’ control.

“We greatly appreciate our partners at the Heritage Festival and are disappointed we could not proceed with our original plans,” Sir says. “This has presented us the great opportunity to work with Oilers Entertainment Group at our new location, where we can deliver a truly special experience for athletes and spectators alike.”
