Ejim Named to Team Canada for Olympic Qualifying Tournament

Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) alumnae Yvonne Ejim will represent her country at the upcoming FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024, which tips off Thursday (Feb. 8) in Sopron, Hungary.

The Calgary native was among 12 players that Canada Basketball named to the Senior Women’s National Team roster in an announcement made Tuesday (Feb. 4).

Canada will face Hungary on Thursday at 11am MT, Spain on Friday (Feb. 9) at 7.30 a.m. MT, and Japan on Sunday at 7:00 a.m. MT. All games will be broadcast live on Sportsnet. The top three finishers in the round-robin tournament qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The six-foot-one forward is in the midst of a sensational senior season of NCAA Division 1 basketball with the Gonzaga Bulldogs. She’s averaging 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and has already been named West Coast Conference (WCC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on five occasions.

Ejim was part of Team Alberta at the Basketball Canada National Championships in 2016 (U15), 2018 and 2019 (U17), and represented her province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

Canada is seeking a fourth consecutive appearance in the Summer Olympics women’s basketball event.
