2018 Team Alberta Coaches


Alberta Basketball is pleased to announce the head coaches for its 2018 provincial teams, that will compete at the Canada Basketball National Championships August 6-11, in Kamloops, B.C., (boys) and Fredericton, N.B. (girls).and look to build on the success of summer 2017, when all four provincial teams placed top five in their respective national events, including a historic silver medal for the 17U Boys at the Canada Summer Games.

Nathan McKibbon
 
 
Head Coach
 
Nathan returns for his second year as head coach of the Alberta 15U Girls, after guiding the team to a 3-3 record and fifth-place result at the 2017 Canada Basketball National Championships. A U Sports women’s basketball coaching veteran, Nathan is currently in his third season as head coach of the Mount Royal Cougars and prior worked as an assistant with the McMaster Marauders.
Reagan Wood
 
 
Head Coach
After a year off from Team Alberta, Reagan returns to the 15U Boys Team as the Head Coach.  After twice assisting with the team (2015, 2016), Reagan is excited to take over the team as the head coach.  Reagan has been the ACAC Coach of the Year the past two seasons (2017, 2018) with his Concordia Thunder team peaking with a #6 CCAA ranking and claiming and ACAC Bronze Medal at this years' championship.

Dave Waknuk
 
 
Head Coach
2018 will be Dave’s seventh year coaching with Alberta provincial teams, and his second heading up the Alberta 17U Girls, whom he coached to fourth place at the 2017 Canada Summer Games. Dave is currently an assistant coach for the University of Lethbridge women’s squad. He formerly was head women’s hoops coach at Grande Prairie Regional  College, where he won the 2011 ACAC Championship.
 
Eric Magdanz
 
 
Head Coach
 Eric is new to the Alberta 17U Boys, but no stranger to Alberta Basketball, having recently coached with the Targeted Athlete Strategy boys program in Edmonton. Formerly an assistant with the Alberta Golden Bears, Eric has been head coach of the MacEwan men’s team since 2012, overseeing the Griffins during their jump from ACAC to the university level and leading them to the Canada West playoffs in 2016.
